Freedom Is… — Opening

May 30, 2026 | 4:00 pm

From May 27 through July 2, ArtPhilly’s inaugural What Now: 2026 festival will spotlight Philadelphia as a vital destination for arts and culture — not only during the nation’s 250th anniversary, but for generations to come. Featuring more than 30 original commissions, The festival celebrates the artists shaping the future from the city where America began.

Broad Street Love is proud to be part of this dynamic event.

Nigerian-American artist Odili Donald Odita has created a monumental new work for Philadelphia. Freedom Is… takes the form of a triptych of sheer fabric suspended from the vaulted ceiling of Broad Street Love’s Sanctuary room. Illuminated by stained-glass light, the installation pulses with abstract forms and vibrant color — a visual meditation on its own open-ended title.

Created in collaboration with The Fabric Workshop and Museum, this permanent commission honors Philadelphia as both the birthplace of America and a sanctuary city, while uplifting voices and histories too often overlooked.
