A Mission Rooted in Love

What We Do

Broad Street Love provides stabilizing services to individuals experiencing deep poverty. We aim to meaningfully reduce the deep trauma and suffering caused by scarcity and break the cycle of hardship, hunger, and housing insecurity in Philadelphia.

Guests are welcomed to receive a daily meal, mail service, personal care and hygiene items, support programs, personalized guidance, and more — all located within our warm, welcoming space on Broad Street in Center City.

Our Mission

By offering radical Hospitality to our neighbors in need, Broad Street Love creates connection and community, restores hope and dignity, and increases security and self-sufficiency.

what is

Radical

Hospitality?

Radical Hospitality is welcoming people in a way that goes above and beyond typical expectations. We reach past the traditional norms of social service to provide an open, welcome, safe space for guests, embracing every one of them with empathy and care. All are welcome at Broad Street Love, without barriers or requirements, to receive physical, mental, spiritual, and practical services.

Our Three Pillars of Radical Hospitality

Affirmation

We hold and support the whole self of each person that shares in our space. We recognize each individual’s needs and welcome their unique contribution to our community. Transformation is built on these daily experiences of seeing and being seen, nurturing and being nurtured.

Intention

Our programs and services are carefully designed through a trauma-aware lens focused on reducing harmful impact and promoting agency, determination, and healing. We strive to provide a model of stability and consistency that in time will extend beyond our doors.

Accountability

We are committed to eroding systemic barriers to resources through dedicated advocacy, modes of access, and essential partnerships. We foster compassionate and difficult conversations with community members when harm has been done, always valuing the safety of each individual and the community at large foremost. Boundaries are a kindness and we support healthy, sustaining action towards realizing such needs.

A Trauma-Aware Approach

Many of our guests are experiencing the effects of trauma, intergenerational poverty, racism, and stigmas related to behavioral health symptoms. It’s our duty to recognize and understand this, and approach our interactions with guests in the way that makes them feel comfortable and supported. Radical Hospitality helps to build this trust, and ultimately create the building blocks for stability that guests need to move forward.

Get Involved

Our mission is made possible with the help of our community of donors, partners, and volunteers. From financial contributions to volunteer hours and in-kind donations of clothing, food, and other essentials, all support makes a difference.
